Slimline snorkel and water ingress

I got my first Jimny three weeks ago, and asked the dealer to install a few extras, including this snorkel. Seemed like a good idea after our Volvo V70 was totalled by a local flood a few months back.

But I am wondering about the design of these snorkels after a comment here. As far as I know the snorkel is a direct and well sealed connection to the air intake, no sort of drainage within its construction.

I am fretting about driving rain being sucked in now, and wonder if anyone has any sage advise about how to improve this?

I bought a rear facing trim on eBay but the damned thing is 5mm out on the screw holes - if I fit it I run the risk of enlarging the exiting holes and nousing it up, as the snorkel is not made of the best plastic.

I have wondered about fitting some foam or light material behind the grill to deter casual ingress, although all that might do is break down any rain sucked in, and it is still water ingress.

Or are there owners out there with snorkels like this that have never had a problem, and I being too precious about my precious?

Pretty pleased with my DIY/budget boot ceiling canopy. After looking at a set which would have run me £170, I went to the hardware store and made some rails for £5.
19mm? Overflow pipe
Plumbing fittings x8
Dowel to strengthen pipe
Walking stick ferrules x4 to cap the rails
Fixed into the grab handle holes x4 with same fittings either end to limit any strap slide. The end ones are just friction locked onto the pipe, no screws. They are enough to prevent strap slippage.

Canopy net was £15 on Amazon.
I realised I was missing a trick with the straps since taking this pic - they now form a cross beneath the net to give better support, rather than just left to right.

Just loving the fact that these are like mountain goats and can go anywhere you point them. I was indifferent about the choice of grey or grey, but after a week it has grown on me.
