Neighbors assaulted me over a misunderstanding and damaged my property

Location: Sacramento

I quit drinking soda and energy drinks a few months ago. I havent had alcohol in years. I replaced my old habit with drinking sparkling apple cider that comes in small glass bottles. The bottles look similar to beer bottles which I think is what caused this whole situation.

This morning I was walking to my car from my apartment holding one of these bottles. My neighbors came up behind me. One of them started punching and kicking me while yelling about how I had the nerve to drink and drive. The other one was blocking me from getting away.

My bottle shattered and cut my hand. My phone screen is destroyed. I think my nose might be fractured. The whole time they kept saying they were protecting the community and doing their duty.

When I finally got them to stop and explained it was apple juice not beer they didnt apologize. They just said they stand by what they did because they thought they were doing the right thing.

I called the cops and theyre on the way. Several neighbors came outside and are giving witness statements.

I want to know what my legal options are. Can I press charges for assault. Can I sue for my medical bills and damaged property. They didnt even check what I was drinking before attacking me.

Any advice appreciated.
