Copying trends feels cringe now… what are y’all doing instead?

Copying trends used to feel like the easiest way to grow, but lately it just feels… off. Like everyone’s posting the same thing with slightly different faces. I catch myself scrolling past trend videos way faster than before, even if they’re “done well.” Anyone else feeling this shift?

So far here is what I've noticed:

  • A lot of creators are noticing lower engagement on copy-paste trends, especially when there’s no unique twist
  • Audiences are starting to prefer personality-driven content over perfectly replicated formats
  • TikTok’s algorithm seems to reward watch time and retention, which original storytelling often does better
  • Trend cycles are getting shorter and more saturated, so jumping in late barely moves the needle
  • “Trend remixing” (same format, new angle/niche) is outperforming straight copying
  • Niche content and specific value (advice, humor, insight) are standing out more than general trend participation
  • There’s growing “trend fatigue,” where viewers just skip content they’ve seen too many times already

At this point, copying trends feels like showing up late to a party where everyone’s already bored. Might as well bring something new… or at least spike the punch a little..am i right?

What is the algorithm doing right now?

You're not imagining it: your posts have been hit-or-miss lately. A lot of platforms have changed how they rank content without making a big deal about it.

• Time spent watching is more important than clicks; content that keeps people's attention is being pushed more.

• Shares and saves are more important than likes

• Original content is more important than reposts or old content

• Posting regularly helps; it makes it more likely that people will see your posts.

• People are starting to like longer videos, not just short ones.

• There is more attention being paid to user behavior signals like pauses, rewatches, and scroll speed.

• Some platforms now let users customize their feeds, which makes it harder for content to be seen.

• Content that is based on stories and values is doing better than random posts.

The algorithm right now feels less like a formula and more like a mood. Some days it rewards strategy… other days it just wakes up and chooses chaos.

Have you ever felt stuck when trying to be creative?

You sit down to and try to come up with an idea for your post. Nothing seems good enough to share. So you just don't post anything.

That's more common than you think. Being creative doesn't happen all the time it comes in waves. There are times when ideas come easily and times when your brain is just processing, resting or too full.

For people the problem isn't that they have no ideas. It's things, like:

• scrolling through your phone for long

• getting too caught up in whats trending

• overthinking everything

• comparing your work to someone elses

On TikTok people always talk about posting consistently but what you don't see are the breaks that creators take to recharge.

If you're feeling stuck (like I am now) it doesn't mean you've lost your creative spark. It usually just means you need to take some pressure off to get going again.

Try posting something

That's usually where things start to get moving. But what do i know..what do you guys think?

How long did it take for you to get your first big hit on TikTok?

Did your first post go viral, or did it take a lot of videos with few views? Maybe it took months before anything worked? Or are you still waiting? (like me hehe)

What people don't see:
• Posts that only get a few hundred views
• Content that didn't work (i got a lot of these)
• Trying the same ideas over and over
• Almost giving up

What changed:
• Being consistent
• Finding out what works
• Getting the timing or trend just right
• Not giving up too soon

Put yours down:
• How many videos did you make before one went viral?
• What kind of content worked?
• Did you expect it or not?

Let's hear the deets.
