Issues with brushing long haired cat- should be get him a haircut?

so we have a kitten that's 11 months old and has that Manx look with the mane and is very furry and he absolutely hates being brushed. He will grab and bite the brush if I try to get his neck ruff and if I try to comb it brush the rest he screams and cries and bites to get away. he doesn't bite hard enough to hurt but it's impossible to get it done . He is getting knots in his fur especially under the armpit, his neck ruff and belly.

we managed to shave his belly and butt fur down to help with knots and hygiene but just brushing is almost impossible. I don't want to traumatize him by chasing him but he needs brushing.

I made an appointment with a groomer to get him shaved down into a lions cut but people on here are telling me not to unless he is unable to groom. He does get hairballs sometimes because I just think from all the hair and I don't think he can reach everywhere.

any recommendations? should I cancel the grooming appointment? or should I just have them brush him completely and get his armpits and belly trimmed? Paying to just have him brushed seems like a lot since he probably needs brushing once a week right? or am I missing something?

Cat groomer in area for cat that hates grooming

I have a 11 month kitten and he absolutely hates being brushed . he is a very bushy cat that looks a lot like a Manx type. He hisses and growls and likes to light bite though it never hurts. I want to take him in to be professionally groomed with a haircut because it's getting warm out and I don't have the tools to hold him still to do this

Can anyone recommend a location that does cats? Most PetSmart or Petco don't, they only do dogs.

Also does anyone that has experience working with cats give me any advice ?
