RS1 Synthesizer now available for NTS1 mkII and NTS3

RS1 Synthesizer now available for NTS1 mkII and NTS3

RS1 Synthesizer is a customizable, or somewhat modular, synth engine that was created with a constraint platform in mind, like the NTS1 mkII. You can create voices using the rsxconstruct tool, after which you can insert the voice or voice cart into the Logue unit with the voice patcher. To celebrate this milestone, I have compiled a basic device bundle for the NTS1 mkII that contains these at a discoiunted price. Note; this is also available for the NTS3, with special unit that are KaoticFX as I call them, as I created a sequencer for them that has rhythm slots of 4 x 16 each, which can be chained and modified using the pattern patcher, and an additional 4 x 16 steps for on-device recorded sequences (non-persistent). This engine might be tiny, but is capable, as the NT-78 is based on the drum engine part (an optimized version single-shot playback of sounds). I am already working on improvements as part of RS2 thast aims at the more powerful devices, like Drumlogue, MicroKorg and Move/Schwung and will offer the use of PCM for transients. The NTS1 mkII does not have the storage to handle this, but features from RS2 might get backported, such as an LFO operator. Development only just started; RS2 will always be compatible with RS1, but RS1 will also see improvements over time (in the form of added features).

I updated the NT-78 even more and besides finger drumming on the NTS3, it now can play short sequences, that are 'pre-programmed' (patchable) rhythms or your own recorded sequences.

This is still under development, but have a look and let me know what I should improve: https://gbraad.itch.io/nt78-nts3drum

The previous message showed I worked on the nt-78, but this is only part of the whole story. A while back one of the community members asked if the NTS1 (mkII) had a drumkit or so. I was lurking in the discord and answered I had created a 404 (not found) drum machine.

He tried it out and made two demo songs. Be careful, the first is quite glitchy and loud:

and

He liked the idea, just not the sounds. A bit too tribecore like. So instead he tried my chiptune drum engine )based on the Amiga AHX core):

We settled on the following; "Let me create a totally NEW engine". So I created the RS1 synthesizer engine:

Here I play one of the other targets (Android) to compare it to how it sounds on the NTS-1. This led to the RD1 to make it act as a drumkit (single shots for notes) and the creation of the NT-78 as shown below.

I will be working on more stuff, as the engine is portable and can run on other devices. Already testing with a Move/Schwung module, but it also runs as a VST3/LV2, Android app (with MIDI), etc.

Hope to hear from you. Follow me on

This unique reproduction of a Vintage Drum Machine is created by GladiTek and Regroove using the RS1 Synthesizer engine. What started as a discusion and Proof of Concept that the Korg NTS1 mkII, could do drumkits, is now a serious Rhythm machine! The recording below is played using Korg NTS1 mkII and external MIDI sequencing. However, we have mapped the keyboard and preset so that it is possible to also use the device's Step Sequencer directly.

Because it is the first of May, holiday for many, I am offering a device bundle at https://itch.io/s/185279/nt-78-vintage-drum-machine-bundle that also contains the original sources and an additional `Bongo` voice that is not available in the units, which can be used in the Android application, the VTS plugin of RS1 and a custom unit. I will be working on improvements. You can follow this on https://blog.gbraad.nl and https://www.patreon.com/gbraad

This will be published soon with the option to create your own voices, and one crated by a community member that resembles a vintage drum machine that Phil Collins used a lot.

Here is DasBeep, a library that can be used for beep-bugging in an audible way. For example, this can be used for DSP or Logue unit development where debug tools like serial or JTAG are not available.

And since this needed an example, I also made an actual usecase for fun to use it as a Morse code generator. The following custom oscillator for the NTS1 mkII converts MIDI notes to morse code patterns.
