As we shifted from Way to Wonderland into Dragon Games, aka into the admittedly delightful Power Princess Shining Bright era of our beloved show, we saw a heavy decline in doll quality that matched Monster High’s G2 release and collections. While I’m definitely open to discussion about how they were ignoring characters like Cedar and Lizzie in order to make others like Darling and Holly more main characters, and the other storytelling choices they made, I’m more curious on your thoughts about the doll choices and quality! Line ideas, choices for molding, the face repaints, colors and patterns. What would you have done better? What’s the worst crime? etc.

I like the idea of if we genuinely got a G2 EAH reboot, that we would refer to dolls of the soft reboot era as G1.5, but that also sparks other discussions. G3 MH is a reboot of G2, not G1! What aspects of each EAH doll era would you pull from?

I don’t know if it was a game, web series, toy line, show, or what it was, but I have this vague memory of mermaid characters from a specific drawn medium. Sometime between 2010-2015, but likely more 2013ish. I remember seeing it on my phone briefly on google so idk it’s source. It’s NOT mermaid world, but that is what triggered the memory, the artstyle was similar, or kind of like the 2d lego friends series? It wasn’t stylized in an anime way, more western.

It was 2d mermaids, there were 7-10 characters with the same silhouette and tails that had thematic alterations and accessories. I think their hair was all natural colors? The front most marketed or ‘leader’ mermaid was blonde with blue theming. At least one of them had a pet sea turtle. The characters had actual names that were ocean themed, stuff like Coral or Pearl, and I think they also had titles? Whether the title had to do with any abilities, role or just their tail color is lost to me. I don’t think it was little mermaid themed, not just Disney, but the fairytale as a whole. It seemed to be more about mermaid life/society under the sea.
