First name on latest passport differs from legal first name - a few questions
My latest expired adult passport has the first name "Alex" but my actual legal first name (on my birth certificate) is "Alexander". I submitted a renewal by mail using the DS-82 form and the first name Alexander, and submitted along with the application a certified copy of my birth certificate. I also paid for expedited processing. I saw the status changed to "Additional information needed", and then got this letter in the mail stating that since I am requesting a different name than my previous passport, I would need to fill out a DS-11 and apply at a passport acceptance facility (even though the name I'm requesting is my legal name on my birth certificate). It states to include the letter with the DS-11 application and also to include public records in my requested name such as birth certificate, school records, medical records, tax records but does not specify any particular document besides birth cert. My questions:
Would the certified copy of my birth certificate already in their possession that I included with the DS-82 suffice for this?
If not, does anyone know specifically what documents I should include in addition (W2, school transcripts, etc.)?
I already paid $190 for the DS-82 with expedited processing - should I consider that payment essentially forfeit at this point and still pay the full amount for the DS-11 + expedited processing as if I am starting over?
