Why does it look so bulky??

I am making the Hanni cardigan by knitters and friends, and for once I was really making sure I was hitting the right gauge. When I came to pick up stitches for the left arm, I could only manage to pick up like ~80 stitches, when it should be 85+, but I thought it would be ok. but its not! It looks super bulky and curled up and I don’t know what I did wrong? Do you see anything off in my pictures?
