What can I do with this stave?

I have a piece of maple which is thicker than the usual boards I get from the lumber yard. it’s 1” x 1.5” x 6’ long. Hard to see from pics but grain runs straight on all sides except a little wave by the end.

I’m thinking either carve a small handle or just go full bend in the handle, neither of which I’ve done before. Or can I chase a ring here? Seems a little small for that but im open to ideas.

thanks

And also, with porous woods like red oak, do you just accept that there will be rough parts where the porous layers surface, or is there a way to deal with them?

Since finishing my first bow I’ve been continuing to improve my craft, getting better / faster at doing the rough work so I can spend more time working on finishes (the fun part) .

These are part of a batch of longbows I’m making for the kids program at my range. Red oak limbs and hickory handle turned out to be a bad match color wise, so I tried a fade effect with the stain to blend them together, but it actually turned out really well! I’ll definitely be using this technique on future projects

I love Stavvy's Dundalk / Baltimore / Glen Byrnie?? accent. That trashy character always makes me laugh big time especially because it's his go-to "stupid guy" voice. If only one day I can visit God's country, Maryland, and experience thh dulcet tones of Dundalk guy for myself.

Is anyone here lucky enough to live in the blessed state of Maryland, and do people there really sound like that?
