Hey everyone, I’ve got this 83 Suzuki gs1100e and I’m diving into the wiring and I think the previous owner crossed some wires here, not sure..

My train of thought is that it has an undiagnosed electrical issue so I am looking through the harness before I give it a fresh battery/ power for the first time. I’m not experienced in reading wiring diagrams so I can be sure what I’m looking at, I need guidance.

So I’ve started by looking into the charging systems. I’m noticing a few things like the battery was not grounded to the frame but through the harness. The rectifier is grounded to the handlebar controls fuse panel, the rectifier is also not connected anywhere (shown). There are 4 loose wires (shown Red, Yellow, white/blue, white/red). The stator wires seem to be connected to the completely wrong wires (shown)

Specifically, can anyone explain where my stator wires and regulator/rectifier wires connect and what the wires that are wrongly connected are for?

I’m typically not well versed in the electronics side of things when it comes to wrenching but in comparison to modern generations of bikes I’ve had, I’m having a bit of fun in being able to make a bit of sense of this wiring diagram.

The only issue I’m running into is that i still need to identify some of the symbols (specifically at the moment the rectangular symbol along the ground for the r/r and routing for the r/r wires.

So I’m looking for a good, informative, classic Japanese muscle bike resto/ cafe racer series. I have this ‘83 gs1100 that I got with unknown issues besides an electrical issue. Need new battery to diagnose.

What would really help is any YouTube series focused on Japanese muscle bikes, classic Suzukis, cafe racer builds, etc.

My grandpa passed away recently and this was in his garage.
All I know about it is that it’s a 1983 suzuki and it hasn’t ran in two years.
No power, no idea what’s wrong with it besides word about an electrical issue.

I’d love to restore or at least get it running.
