Classic Horse story I stayed up all night reading when I was a kid

Please help me find this book so I can read it with my daughter. I would’ve read it in the early 1990s but it was old then. Maybe set in the 1940s. I would’ve been in fourth or fifth grade and I stayed up all night reading it. So it would’ve been written for that age level and compelling that kept me reading it. It was a tale about a girl and her horse.

Books that I thought it might be that it is not
Black beauty and the black stallion. I just started national velvet and it might be that but based on the language, I don’t think it is.

Edited to add: it’s not Misty of chincoteague, we’ve read that when already.

My Student Teacher is wrapping up her elementary placement with me in a couple of weeks. Among other things, I always like to give them a book. She enthusiastically really wants to teach middle school. I do not care for middle school. Or know anything about it. Does anybody have some good book recommendations that I could help get her library started with.
