I'm sure you all know the story and that they were both taken from the same live concert etc etc I'm just curious which people prefer of the 2?

And before someone chimes in I'm well aware that they released a complete set of the entire performance decades later but these 2 are all a lot of us knew for eons before that and I'm just bored and wanna generate a bit of discussion about these 2 classic albums as they were released at the time

I'm gonna go with Waltz For Debby personally. I just find it more rounded and melodic. It's a bit more about the whole trio whereas At Village Vanguard is more a showcase of Scott La'Faro's (obviously great) bass playing.

Which do you prefer?

Do you prefer 'Sunday at The Village Vanguard' or 'Waltz For Debby'?

I'll always love it and I'll always consider it to be a sublime masterpiece and an absolute pinnacle of recorded music. However I don't think I've had the urge to actually play it for about 10 years now. I just listened to it that many times in the past that I just almost know it too well now. Like it has nothing to reveal to me anymore. I naturally occasionally hear songs from it here and there and it just kind of feels like I'm going through the motions with it it doesn't profoundly impact me in the way it once did. Has anyone else suffered from this?
