Having practice paralysis…idk where to start

Hey all, I used to play guitar for a few years then dropped it then picked it up back up again in October. Never really advanced past learning rock/blues songs and basic pentatonic shapes.

Initially, I really wanted to play blues guitar like SRV and started out learning songs from YouTube. Then I realized I wanted to learn more about theory and expand outside of “pentatonic box 1”. So I started lessons with a local teacher and initially was working through “Blues You Can Use” by John Ganapes and spider exercises.

Then I started to develop an interest into jazz guitar so started working through jazzguitar.be’s beginner Ebook. However, I started to realize that I didn’t really know my way around the fretboard and I had a hard time recognizing chord tones on the fretboard. My teacher is a classical guitarist who studied jazz guitar and he instructed to go through the major scale using the Circle of 5ths naming every note instead of blindly learning scale patterns.

Unfortunately I lost interest just learning/practicing scales and I took a break from lessons.

My goal is ultimately learning jazz guitar and so I was almost about to buy Jens Larsen’s Roadmap.

How do I learn the fretboard and approach learning jazz guitar without getting overwhelmed in scales/arpeggio exercises?

TLDR: I don’t know where to start with jazz guitar and having a ton of decision fatigue.
