Hunter Test ELA Questions

So my 5th grader finished off his state exams, and based on his own reporting and a bunch of perfect scores on the previous-year tests his teachers gave him, I'm feeling reasonably confident he'll qualify to take the Hunter Test next year.

I checked their website and prep for the math portion at least seems pretty straightforward, as it's now just a rebranded ISEE Middle test, but I'm a little murkier on the ELA section and had a few questions:

  • The website alludes to how they use only older readings on their practice tests for copyright reasons. Are the more contemporary materials on the real test a bit more readable, or are they of similar difficulty to the practice ones?
  • Are there any other standardized tests (ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT) whose reading comprehension sections are a particularly good proxy for the Hunter one?
  • What's a good target correct percentage? I've seen people online say everything from 66% to 90%.

Thanks for any insights!
