29th overall pick possibilities

I was pumped to see that we got pick 29 as part of the Bailey trade! Not only does this give us a monster draft pool, but it also opens up so many more possibilities.

College pitching- Perhaps Tony's guy Tegan Kuhns (RHP Tennessee) could make it to pick 29. Other college arms include Cole Carlon (LHP ASU), Mason Edwards (LHP USC), Liam Peterson (RHP Florida), Hunter Dietz (LHP Arkansas), Cade Townsend (RHP Ole Miss), Logan Reddemann (RHP UCLA). Cam Flukey (RHP Coastal Carolina) probably won't make it that far even with the time missed due to rib injury.

This might be the strongest prep pitching class in a long time

Prep Lefties- Carson Boleman (South Carolina), Sean Duncan (Canada), Logan Schmidt (socal), Bo Holloway (Tennessee). Gio Rojas (Florida) and Brody Bomila (Massachusetts) are the two top prep lefties and likely will not make it to pick 29.

Prep Righties- Jensen Hirschkorn (RHP, Kingsburg CA), Coleman Borthwick (FL), Denton Lord (FL), Kaeden Waechter (FL), Wilson Andersen (FL), Cooper Harris (TX), Savion Sims (TX), Cole Koeninger (TX and a Tennessee commit) Kaiden McCarthy (Vermont and also a Tennessee commit), Joseph Contreras (GA)

College Hitters: Daniel Jackson (C, Georgia), Carson Tinney (C, Texas), Aiden Robbins (OF Texas), Derek Curriel (OF LSU), Jake Brown (OF LSU), Jarren Advincula (2B Georgia Tech), Carson Kerce (SS Georgia Tech), Caden Sorrell (OF Texas A&M), Zion Rose (OF Louisville), Logan Hughes (OF Texas Tech), Eric Becker (SS Virginia), Chris Rembert (2B/OF Auburn). Arkansas catcher and bay area native Ryder Helfrick doesn't appear likely to make it down to 29.

Prep Hitters- Trevor Condon (OF LHH Georgia, committed to Tennessee!), Beau Peterson (3B LHH Kansas), Bo Lowrance (3B LHH, South Carolina), Taj Marchand (SS/3B RHH South Carolina), Aiden Ruiz (SS LHH from New York) Connor Comeau (SS/3B LHH from Texas), Cole Prosek (3B/OF LHH from Mississippi), Will Brick (C RHH from Tennessee), Sean Dunlap (C RHH from Illinois). Two local prospects Tyler Spangler (SS LHH from De La Salle) and Archer Horn (SS LHH St. Ignacius) are both committed to Stanford and who knows how that all shakes out.

Tons of good options at picks 29 & 55 (as well as pick 90 for that matter)

"4. Giants: Jacob Lombard, SS, Gulliver Prep, Miami (No. 7)
Word is that Posey, now president of baseball operations for his former team, would do whatever it takes to float Cholowsky down to No. 4. More likely, he'll be looking at some combination of Lackey, Flora and Lombard. Other clubs believe the Giants' preference would be Lombard, a premium athlete who has assuaged concerns about his bat this spring after a lackluster performance on the showcase circuit."

Any Cholowsky talk is just pie in the sky bullshit.

Q: You hinted at the idea that SF may go upside rather than chalk at #4. Most have penciled in Flora, and given the lack of top arms in their system, this makes sense. Emerson was a hot name, but as you note, his floor my be #3. If they veer from Flora.. what are the chances they go Lombard or even Booth? LeBron seems an odd option (especially with their recent focus on 'contact" and also the plethora of higher upside SS in their system).

A: You never let your current plethoras (plethorae?) get in the way of taking the best player. They took and paid Dakota Jordan, so they're not averse to going in on a high-strikeout college hitter with huge tools. I could see them going Booth over Flora, esp if they decide they want a position player.

Q: What do the Giants do given their miserable start to the season? It's hard to do a huge sell off considering the term on the Chapman, Devers, and Adames contracts.

A: Fire the manager, right? Isn't that what everyone else is doing. Oh, wait...

Q: Keith, Giants fan here - I like Flora at #4 where you have him for the Giants (who I am realistically hoping for). Good fit. Chowlowsky has mentioned he likes the Giants - and SF has had good experiences with UCLA shortstops. Any chance he drops to SF.

A:  No

Q: Is there any chance that Cholowsky gets to SF at 4?

A: Only if there's some medical thing we don't know about. So, no.

Q: If you had to give a percentage chance on how likely the Giants are to not go with Roch, Emerson, Vahn or Flora, what would that percentage be?

A: You'd need a scenario where Roch and Lackey are gone ... I think we're under 25% on that.

"I keep hearing that the White Sox are leaning towards the two main prep shortstops, Emerson and Jacob Lombard, although I can’t rule out that this is posturing to try to get a better deal with Roch Cholowsky, the putative top prospect in the class. Emerson at No. 1 makes sense if you think he’s the next Kevin McGonigle — a very advanced hitter from a small high school whose value rests heavily on the hit tool. Emerson’s a better shortstop right now than McGonigle was as a senior, while McGonigle had more power. Lombard, meanwhile, would be a bet on upside; he might have the best overall tools on the high school side, but his hit tool is a huge question mark."

Also with some interesting stuff on the 4th overall pick!

Top 10 prospects

Player Previous Trending
1. Josuar Gonzalez, SS 1
2. Bryce Eldridge, 1B 2
3. Jhonny Level, SS 3
4. Luis Hernandez, SS 4
5. Gavin Kilen, SS 5
6. Bo Davidson, CF 6
7. Keyner Martinez, RHP 8
8. Carson Whisenhunt, LHP 10
9. Dakota Jordan, CF 7
10. Jesus Rodriguez, C NR

"Eldridge looks destined to get another call-up soon, Level is hot in the early going and Whisenhunt's velo is up a bit.

The Giants' upcoming fourth pick is a hot topic in the industry because they could just select the player from the top group of four who drops to them. But there are incessant rumors that they're shooting for the moon, in terms of upside and risk, to infuse the system with more high-end talent after more conservative drafts recently.

Next to debut: Rodriguez, acquired from the Yankees at last year's deadline, is the third catcher and on the 40-man, so he has a good shot to be the next prospect to make his debut."

4/30 update.

Lebron only moved down to #5, Lackey/Flora and others moved way up from their last January update.

After 31 games, the Giants' run differential is now 102-127, a win percentage of 0.392 (39.2 percent). If they keep this up they'll finish with the worst run differential in their history in San Francisco, surpassing 2017's 0.412 (41.2 percent), and the fourth worst in the long history of the Giants.

Rough time for baseball in San Francisco.

"Because Buster Posey has been able to land “star” players on long-term deals — guaranteeing more than half a billion dollars combined to Matt ChapmanWilly Adames, and Rafael Devers.

And in return, he’s bought an offense so toothless it should be eating soup through a straw."
