as the title states I have seen my fellows who've been attending workshops of various teachers. Are they really imp? what happens in a workshop?

can someone please tell the rules for caies? like what pen to take? can i take the black ball pen? also the basic stuff like what to take and what to do when ur ans exceeds the page?
