Do I strictly have to memorize all the chinese tones?

Native English and Korean speakers don't really seem to care about phonetic symbols all that much. Given how much dialects vary, Korea has even phased out written pronunciation guides in dictionaries, leaving only the audio. Since Chinese is so rhythmic, does that mean mastering the tones is absolutely mandatory?

The Chinese voice recognition is seriously flawed

The Chinese voice recognition is really buggy . My pronunciation isn't even that bad, but it barely picks up what I'm saying during the word-speaking quizzes.

I feel that it is the best application in the world by far.

Hi!

I'm a dedicated, loyal user. That said, however, whenever that sudden electrical bolt flashes at the top, it feels like it's trying to fire me away, and it scares me so much that it interfere with maximizing my efficient learning. For what? My goal is to get a 118 on the TOEFL ( Not a perfect score ) because human language is such a subtle and emotional thing. My contructive criticism is that Duolingo can't teach things like newly coined expressions, subtle nuances, and most importantly slangs! etc! So i'll make use of it during my max plan for a while and drop it.

Does Duolingo’s voice recognition just suck on the Galaxy Tab?

Since it’s on Android, I heard it uses Google’s text-to-speech and voice recognition technology, but it’s so buggy that it’s really frustrating. It’s even worse on voice calls with Lily. she can’t even recognize very simple words
