Analysis of Bologna's Shot Discipline in their 3-2 win vs Napoli
I was looking at the shot map from the Napoli-Bologna game and it tells a fascinating story beyond the scoreline. It's a perfect case study in quality over quantity. Look at Bologna's shot placement. They took only 10 shots, but their goals were incredibly high-value. Two were scored from practically inside the six-yard box, and the third was from a central position just outside the area. They were unbelievably disciplined, refusing to waste possession on low-percentage shots from wide angles.
To score 3 goals from just 5 shots on target is the definition of clinical. Now, contrast that with Napoli. They managed 14 total shots, getting 9 on target. You can see the cluster of shots from good positions inside the box. They weren't struggling to create chances, but they were struggling to convert them. To have nine shots on goal and only walk away with two goals speaks to either wasteful finishing or a heroic defensive/goalkeeping performance from Bologna.
It's a classic example of a team with a clear, ruthlessly efficient attacking plan beating a team that was merely productive. Bologna came to win by being smarter, not just by shooting more.
