Mid-2012 Mac Mini + Linux Mint — simple, stable, and still going strong (16GB RAM + SSD)
I’ve been running Linux Mint on a Mid-2012 Mac Mini, and it’s turned into one of the most practical machines I’ve owned.
Specs / upgrades:
- Mid-2012 Mac Mini
- 16 GB RAM
- 1 TB SSD
- Linux Mint (current install)
Experience:
- Boots to desktop in under a minute
- Smooth performance for browsing, terminal work, documents, media, and general multitasking
- Stable, predictable, and low-maintenance
- No noticeable slowdowns in daily use
Disk usage is currently around ~55 GB total, mostly personal files and media, with periodic cleanup keeping things organized and efficient.
For older hardware, Linux Mint has been a great fit. The combination of SSD + sufficient RAM makes the system feel responsive and reliable without needing constant tweaking.
Curious how others here are finding Mint on older hardware, especially Mac Minis or similarly aged systems.
