Fake Religion refers to in-universe religion that take the place of real-world religions. Some may be replacements for real religions, but some may have no specific connection to any real religions (for the sake of argument I’m saying a real religion is one that exists IRL, no theological debates). This is a loved trope since it add to lore and world building, and can provide motivation for characters.

Cthulhu Cultists (Cthulhu Mythos) Cthulhu Cultists are truly deranged. Only the most misanthropic or degenerate person would work to bring about Cthulhu’s awakening. Many of Cthulhu’s cultists are not even human, instead being a fish-frog-human hybrid. Cthulhu’s return will signal the end of humanity.

Jedi (Star Wars Series) More of a mystery cult than an open religion, the Jedi Order provides spiritual guidance for those who seek to master the force. Jedi’s believe in the connection of all living things, and how this connection can guide the actions and destiny of individuals.

Space Catholicism (Futurama) Space Catholicism and many of the other religions in the series can be read as parodies of 21st century religious attitudes and pop culture worship, with religions like Oprahism and the Church of Trek.
