My husband and I are looking into buying a car we can work on together over the weekends. We both don't have any mechanical experience apart from oil changes and work we've done on our 4wd for offroading (but those were more external mods)so we're pretty new.

Ideally looking to get a cheap ish car for under 10k to work on but we don't have a budget on how much money we want to invest in it. It will just be a case of adding stuff as we go.

I've heard xr6 falcons are great cause of their engines but we are set on a manual and they're hard to come by. Other options were wrxs, liberty's or lancers.

Any tips on a starting point would be great. Even other options we haven't considered. This car will be something we want to learn on as we go.
