What modern classics are readily accessible?

Some really great games just don’t have any way for us to (legally) play without hunting down decades old discs or cartridges and spending hundreds.

Some games you can download right off of steam, PS store, eshop, etc.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best JRPGs ever made. And you have no excuse for not playing it if you have a computer because it’s $15 and could run on a potato.

What else is right there for us all to be playing but we might not even know to look for?

What are the best scholarly compendiums of different cultures folktales?

Ideally I’d like books I can buy and study. I want ones that include not just scholarly analysis’ and commentary of the folktales but also detailed versions and variations of the stories themselves. They’d ideally be able to discuss the origins around the myths and legends and be able to connect them to historical events and other folklore throughout time.

What are the best sources to find these as I’m interested in not just one region but as much as I can get my hands on

To summarize: I want reputable books that both analyze folklore and their history and provide detailed versions of the tales themselves.

Most people have played at least one. Some of us have played as many as we can find. Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, etc. Games where you’re playing the general, directing your army and fighting large scale battles.

Some games do certain things better than others so what does what the best for you? The weapons system in Fire Emblem is perfect, the branching story of Triangle is engrossing, the classes in Ogre are awesome. What’s your favorite?

There are timeless classics we all know about. Games like Lunar, many Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games, Chrono Trigger and the like.

Then there are games that although they may have been good, weren’t classics. Games that you’ll know about if you were there for them, but probably wouldn’t if you got into the genre a few years later. Games like Wild Arms.

What games just don’t get mentioned anymore?
