Feeling lost about my degree choice and disillusioned with/bored by Humanities course
Hi everyone,
I’ve always been a naturally high achiever in the Humanities and only reasonably good at STEM. In high school I ended up taking 4 unit English and dropped out of Maths Advanced as I found it too difficult. The thing is, I have realised now, one year into my BArts degree, that as much as the Humanities come easily to me, I am bored by the content and disillusioned with the subjectivity of the discipline. And, thinking back to high school, even though I ended up dropping out of Maths Advanced, on the occasion that I did well in it, I actually really enjoyed it and got more satisfaction out of it than any of my Humanities courses. I’m just really lost and could use some advice, especially from any students who are enrolled/have completed a STEM degree even if not naturally inclined towards STEM subjects.
Overall, I am torn between continuing a degree that I do well in without too much effort but don’t feel very excited by, versus struggling a fair bit in a STEM degree but, I think, being a lot more satisfied with future career outcomes (I’m particularly interested in something to do with aviation/aerospace) if I am able to miraculously get better at STEM and do well enough in a STEM degree.
