BACKGROUND

On July 1^(st), 1980, the body of a woman was found partially submerged in a creek behind the Shore Lanes Bowling Alley (also noted as just “Shore Bowling Alley”) off Route 35 near the Asbury Park Circle in Neptune, New Jersey. She was believed to have been deceased up to one month prior to her discovery (New Jersey State Police state specifically “June 15^(th)”. Her cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head by an unknown “blunt instrument”.

Authorities believe her to be Caucasian, between 20 to 30 years old, between 5'6" to 5'8" in height and weighed between 130 to 140 pounds. She had brown hair. Her eye colour could not be determined. She previously had two upper left molars extracted.

She was found wearing a dark blouse with gold threads, blue jeans, black underwear, brown canvas shoes, and multiple items of jewellery: brown plastic tortoise shell bracelet, white metal ring with a clear/white stone, white metal beaded chain, yellow metal coarse "S" chain, yellow metal fine "S" chain, yellow metal tube chain with a yellow metal letter "T" (½” in size). A white plastic comb and $27.00 USD cash were also found.

Sadly, there is not much information on her. A photo was taken of the jewellery found with her, which I will include here, as well as the article by the Asbury Park Press, her reconstruction, and photos taken of her shoes.

CLOTHING/ITEMS – On the body, the following were noted

  • Dark blouse with gold threads (Label stated “COPENHAGEN”; size “Large”)
  • Blue jeans (Brand “Zena”; no size noted)
  • Black underwear/brief panties (Label stated “100% cotton”; no brand or size noted)
  • Brown canvas shoes (No brand noted; Size “7.5”)
  • White plastic comb (8” long; in her left sock)
  • Brown plastic bracelet (Tortoise shell colour; 3” diameter)
  • White metal ring with clear/white stone (Engraved with “18kt”)
  • Beaded chain (White metal, 19 ½” long; “similar to military “dog tag” issue”)^(4)
  • Coarse “S” chain (Yellow metal, 23 ¼” long)
  • Fine “S” chain (Yellow metal, 16” long)
  • Tube chain with letter “T” (½” in size) on clasp (Yellow metal, 15” long)^(5)

Near the body, the following were noted

  • $27.00 USD cash (possibly in one of her shoes as per the Asbury Park Press article)

NOTESThings of note or discrepancies found during research

^(1) POSTMORTEM INTERVAL – The DoeNetwork notes it as “weeks prior”, New Jersey State Police notes it specifically “June 15^(th), 1980”, and the Asbury Park Press article notes it as possibly up to a month prior to her discovery.

^(2) HEIGHT – The DoeNetwork and NamUs note her height as 5’7” estimate, while the New Jersey State Police note it as 5’6” to 5’8”.

^(3) WEIGHT – The DoeNetwork and NamUs note her weight as 135 pounds estimated, while the New Jersey State Police note it as 130 to 140 pounds.

^(4) “DOG TAG” NECKLACE – The Asbury Park Press article notes that she had on “…a coarse white metal necklace and a chain with a metal dog tag similar to those worn by military officers.” I believe that the article may have been confused, as the photo showing the jewellery she was found with does include a “white metal, beaded chain, similar to military “dog tag” issue” but it did not seem to have an actual dog tag on it. I believe that the chain itself was possibly similar to some military dog tag necklaces, but an actual dog tag was not found/on it.

^(5) “T” NECKLACE – Some sources note that the “T” was “half a letter”, but the photo showing her jewellery notes “1/2” yellow metal letter “T” and her reconstruction show a full “T”. I believe the ½” it was noted as got confused at some point as “a half”. I may be wrong, so if I missed something saying otherwise, please let me know!

^(6) NECKLACE COLOURS – I am unsure why, but some sources (including the New Jersey State Police) note a lot of her necklaces as “black”, but the descriptions given in the photo of her jewellery do state each as either yellow or white metal (whichever they were), and none as “black”. I am unsure if this has just gotten confused as well since the photo is in black and white? Again, if I missed somewhere saying otherwise, please let me know.

White Pine County John Doe (January 1984)

White Pine County John Doe (January 1984)

  • DATE OF DISCOVERY: January 25^(th), 1984

  • LOCATION OF DISCOVERY: Baker, White Pine County, Nevada, USA

  • ESTIMATED YEAR OF DEATH: 1984

  • POSTMORTEM INTERVAL: 1 week

  • CONDITION OF REMAINS: Not recognizable – Decomposition/putrefaction

  • CAUSE OF DEATH: Carbon monoxide poisoning

  • MANNER OF DEATH: Suicide

  • SEX: Male

  • ESTIMATED AGE^(1)****: 40 – 60 years old

  • RACE: Caucasian

  • HEIGHT (ESTIMATED): 5’9” – 6’0” (69 – 72 inches; approx. 175.26 – 182.88 cm)

  • WEIGHT (ESTIMATED)^(2): 160 pounds (approx. 72.58 kg)

  • EYE COLOUR: Unknown

  • HAIR: Red/auburn or brown (graying on the sides)

  • DISTINGUISHING MARKS/FEATURES:

    • “Extensive dental work” noted

BACKGROUND

On the morning of January 25^(th), 1984, the body of a man was discovered inside of a parked 1968 Chevrolet Belair at the Willow Patch Rest Stop in rural White Pine County, Nevada. The area he was found is approximately 45 miles East of Ely. A rubber hose was attached to the cars exhaust and then extended “…into the partially opened passenger window into the passenger compartment.”

Authorities believe that the man had been deceased approximately 1 week. It is believed that the man was Caucasian, between 40 to 60 years old, between 5’9” to 6’0” in height, and weighed an estimated 160 pounds. He had red/auburn or red/brown hair, which was graying on the side. His eye colour could not be determined. He is noted to have had “extensive dental work”, though no further description/information is provided. The DoeNetwork states “All tags were removed from clothing prior to death.”

The man was found wearing a thin blue jacket, yellow button-up sweater, white long-sleeve shirt, green trousers, black golf shoes with the spikes removed, prescription glasses, and “military non-prescription glasses” (no further information or description of these are given). Inside the car, a black windbreaker, beige windbreaker, blue and red checkered shirt, blue shirt, brown wallet containing $201.40, and a suicide note was found.

The 1968 Chevrolet Belair is described as a 6 cylinder, two-door hard top in a faded gray/green or faded blue/green colour. The car’s VIN number was 155118T240844, and it did not have a license plate. Authorities “…contacted all 50 states in 1984 trying to match the car’s VIN with no success.” It was discovered that the car was manufactured at an assembly plant in Tarrytown, New York. A Websleuths user contacted GM regarding this car and VIN, and was given the information regarding Tarrytown, but the GM employee also stated “Build records no longer exist for Chevrolets built prior to 1977.”

Authorities believe the man may have been living in his car. The backseat (both the back support and seat) was missing. The glove box contained “…an electric component box, possibly handmade...” This box had switches and three colored lights. Five leads connected the box to the starter solenoid, as an apparent power source. “It was thought this was a timing device designed to turn off the vehicle after a set time.”

The suicide note was signed “J”. The note included a “P.S”, requesting that the $201.40 in his wallet be donated to the Mormon Church. The note “appeared to have been written as a prayer.” It is noted that it contained the following: “Please forgive then all, dear Lord, for any hurt they cause this humble servant whom they never knew – who got aweful [sic] tired on the journey, and could go no further.” NamUs also notes that his suicide note “…refers to “middle life.””

One thing I would like to note is that a “Willow Patch Rest Stop” does not really exist, at least online. I am unsure if an area is called that unofficially, or was called that in the past, so I cannot verify the exact rest stop/location that he was found. An article found from the Ely Daily Times does state a different location of “…a dirt road on the east side of Sacramento Pass…” It also states that “…the man was found by a passing Mt. Wheeler Power Inc. employee.”

The DoeNetwork states “White Pine County Sheriff’s Office personnel reportedly printed the decedent [his fingerprints] and sent prints to the FBI. There was no match.”

Someone tagged Othram on his Websleuths forum post, and today Othram replied, “We are tracking the case!” I am hoping this means that Othram may see if they can help out on this case.

CLOTHING/ITEMS – On the body, the following were noted

  • Thin blue jacket with hood (No brand or sized noted)
  • Yellow button-up sweater (No brand or sized noted)
  • White long-sleeve shirt (No brand or sized noted)
  • Green trousers (No brand or sized noted)
  • Black golf shoes with the spikes removed (No brand or sized noted)
  • Prescription glasses (No further description noted)
  • “Military” non-prescription glasses (No further description noted)

Near the body, the following were noted

  • Black windbreaker (No brand noted, size “Medium”)
  • Beige windbreaker (No brand noted, size “Medium”)
  • Blue and red checkered shirt (No brand or sized noted)
  • Blue shirt (No brand noted, size “Medium”)
  • Brown wallet containing $201.40

NOTESThings of note or discrepancies found during research

^(1) AGE – The DoeNetwork states his estimated age as “40 – 46” years old. I am unsure why, as NamUs lists it was “40 – 60” years old.

^(2) WEIGHT – The DoeNetwork states his estimated weight as “170 – 180” pounds. Again, I am unsure why, as NamUs lists it as “160” pounds estimated.

NOTES – Things of note or discrepancies found during research

^(1) HAIR – One article I discovered (Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 27 Feb 1979) for some reason states his hair to be long and blond. One other article (Honolulu Star-Advertiser, 28 Feb 1979) does state his hair as brown, like NamUs. Just thought I’d mention this, though I will not include a snippet of the first article as I believe it may have been wrong.

Los Angeles County John Doe (January 1980)

I originally believed articles about a man found in a ravine in the Los Padres National Forest was related to #UP4390, as it was stated as such on the Unidentified Wiki and was seemingly confusing others on Websleuths as well. I found a subsequent article by the Santa Barbara News-Press (27 Jan 1980) confirming the identity of the man in the original article, confirming that they are now the same man. I have edited the John Doe's Wiki entry (it was my first time ever doing that, so if anyone who does it often sees something to fix on it, go ahead!) I will not add the article that identifies him as I do not want to further confuse anyone, but I have posted it on this John Doe's Websleuths post.

I have reposted this, without the articles or information from the articles, and just about John Doe #UP4390, I am hoping that this will help others in the future not get confused, as I feel it really could hinder John Doe's identification.

Newberry/Alachua County John Doe (August 2017)

(Apologies for the long writeup!)

Newberry/Alachua County John Doe (August 2017)

  • DATE OF DISCOVERY: August 7^(th), 2017
  • LOCATION OF DISCOVERY: Newberry, Alachua County, Florida, USA
  • ESTIMATED YEAR OF DEATH: 1990 – 2015
  • POSTMORTEM INTERVAL^(1)****: 2 – 27 years
  • CONDITION OF REMAINS: Not recognizable – Partial skeletal parts only (one or both hands not recovered)
  • CAUSE OF DEATH: Unknown/not stated
  • SEX: Male
  • ESTIMATED AGE: 18 – 65 years old
  • RACE: Caucasian
  • HEIGHT: Cannot estimate
  • WEIGHT: Cannot estimate
  • EYE COLOUR: Unknown
  • HAIR: Unknown
  • DISTINGUISHING MARKS/FEATURES: None stated

BACKGROUND

At approximately 9:50 a.m., on August 7^(th), 2017, authorities were alerted to the 21701 Northwest 52^(nd) Place in Newberry, Florida, when employees of a septic tank repair company discovered human bones within a homeowner’s tank. The homeowner was previously having issues with their septic tank and thus called a company for help to inspect/repair it. Employees encountered clogging issues when pumping (emptying) the tank, which is when they discovered skeletal remains within the tank. “Deputies, detectives, medical examiners and anthropologists soon arrived and determined the bones to be human, Sim [Alachua County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Sims] said.” (The Gainesville Sun, 07 August 2017)

‘Pumping’ a septic tank refers to emptying the tank of its liquid and solid waste. When this is done, it is pumped into a truck to be taken away and disposed of. According to a Fox 35 Orlando article (published August 8th, 2017) states that the waste that had been pumped into the company’s truck was taken from the scene and inspected for further bones. From what I could find, there has been no further mention of this or if any more bones were found from this.

According to the article by The Gainesville Sun, the property (including a mobile home and the septic tank) where purchased by the current homeowners in 2016. This article (which also states the current homeowners’ full names and the name of the man they purchased the property from) states “Sims said the current homeowners are considered witnesses in the case.” No further information is given about that.

Sales history of the property/house are available online, which indicate that it was built in 1981, and then subsequently sold numerous times (Jun. 1986, May. 1987, Feb. 1988, Jul. 1992, Nov. 1994, Dec. 1995, Dec. 1995 (a second time), and then most recently Jun. 2016). These records vary slightly from the two sources I used, as one (RedFin) notes some that are not on the other (Realtor) and vice versa. They state that the information was obtained by ‘public record’, but I cannot find that. A comment on a Websleuths post about this case also mentions these property records (specifically from RedFin), and they mention other times the property was sold that I did not see on the website (specifically, they it was sold Oct. 1994 and then again in Nov. 1994, but neither of the websites I looked at with records (including the one they linked) mention it being sold in Oct. 1994).

An article by The Gainesville Sun (published August 8^(th), 2017) does state that “Detectives are looking into when the septic tank had been installed and who had access to it, Forgey [agency spokesperson Art Forgey] said.” The article also states, “They’ve found enough evidence at this point that they’ve got some investigative leads that they’re following,” Forgey said.” There has been no further mention of these leads, or if they determined information such as when the tank was installed and who had access to it.

NamUs lists the remains as Male, but I could not find any other source stating this, or when this was discovered, as even a year after the discovery, an article by WUFT (published August 10^(th), 2018) stated “…all that’s been determined is the remains were those of an adult.” This is, from what I could find, the last time this case was written about.

NamUs does have more information (such as the remains being of a male) as well as that he was Caucasian, that his likely year of death was between 1990 to 2015, and that he was possibly between 18 to 65 years old. Given an estimated year of death of 1990 to 2015, his postmortem interval would be around 2 to 27 years. Eye colour, hair colour, height, and weight could not be estimated. I, again, am unsure when these things were determined. They may have discovered more information about the remains at some time and never said so publicly and just updated/uploaded the NamUs page. The last comment left on the Websleuths post, from November 14^(th), 2024, states “NamUs was modified today; no new exclusions.” There is no further information on what was modified, if known.

CLOTHING/ITEMSOn the body, the following were noted

  • Yellow metal chain
  • Remnants of two shoes (noted as “2 shoe remnants” on NamUs)

Near the body, the following were noted

  • Button-down sweater
  • Button-up shirt
  • Brown striped foil wrapper
  • Orange disposable lighter
  • Visine bottle

NOTESThings of note or discrepancies found during research

^(1) NamUs states his estimated year of death to be 1990 to 2015, which would give a postmortem interval of 2 to 27 years, but the Unidentified Wiki lists it as “2 – 17 years”.

  • LOCATION OF DISCOVERY: Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, USA
  • ESTIMATED YEAR OF DEATH: 2015 – (Spring) 2018
  • POSTMORTEM INTERVAL: approximately 9 months – 3 years
  • CONDITION OF REMAINS: Not recognizable – Partial skeletal parts only
  • CAUSE OF DEATH: Unknown (suspected homicide)

  • EYE COLOUR: Unknown
  • HAIR: Unknown
  • DISTINGUISHING MARKS/FEATURES: None noted

BACKGROUND

At approximately 10:30 a.m., on December 29^(th), 2018, two hunters discovered skeletal remains in a pasture in the 500 block of Ragle Road in Weatherford, Texas. “The remains were scattered on the southwest corner of the property in about a 50-yard radius,” Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a news release.” (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 03 January 2019)

The remains were determined to be of a Hispanic or Asian woman. She was believed to have been between 25 to 35 years old and stood around 4’6” to 5’3” in height. Eye colour, hair colour/description, and weight could not be determined.

Originally, the woman was believed to have died between 9 months to two years prior. Authorities now believe she likely died sometime between 2015 and the Spring of 2018 (approximately 9 months to 3 years prior).

A bright pink waist tie, seemingly from a bath robe, was found near the remains. It cannot be confirmed that it is related, but authorities believe it may be due to the proximity.

On September 5^(th), 2019, the Parker County Sheriff's Office, in a Facebook post, released a reconstruction of the woman. This post is where it is stated her likely time of death is now believed to be from 2015 to Spring of 2018. Other than a handful of articles in the first week of January 2019 (very soon after her discover), and a handful in September 2019 when the Sheriff’s Office released the reconstruction, there is not much information regarding her or her case.
