The most Land Rover thing ever just happened today
I took my LR3 in for an inspection and decided to have the annual oil change done while it was there (I usually handle that myself). During the visit, they tried to upsell me on replacing the engine air filter and cabin filter—I declined, no issue there.
Things went sideways when they couldn’t figure out the drain plug. A previous shop had cross-threaded it, so I explained that they just needed to remove the inner plug. After about 40 minutes, they wrapped everything up and attempted to start the car—nothing. A jumper pack didn’t work either. Eventually, they jumped it from a running vehicle and got it started.
Then it wouldn’t move when shifted into drive.
Fortunately, I had my scan tool with me. I cleared the codes, and that resolved the issue enough for me to get home. Once there, I checked the battery: it’s healthy—14V while running and 12.7V with the engine off.
I’m not sure what they did, but something clearly went wrong during the service.
