Hello Vets

I have a question about kidney function/failure for a 17 year old cat (18 this year) who missed 4 days of meals (she eats when given food, but our cat sitter forgot to go). She’s in stage one kidney failure but other than her bloodwork you’d never know. She’s in perfect health otherwise and shows no outward signs of her kidney damage. Energy levels and mobility are all intact.

I’ll preface this by saying I will be taking my cat in for geriatric bloodwork as soon as I can, in the next two weeks for sure. She usually goes once a year in the spring.

I’m currently panicking because I’m away out of the province, and my partner‘s aunt was supposed to be looking after our animals. I realized after checking the video cam on our doorbell yesterday that she hasn’t been over in four days. She went over last night and I’ll be monitoring the cam now to make sure. I should have been checking because this happened once before for a day but I thought it was a temporary slip.

She eats Royal Canin renal support early consult (prescribed). She gets a half a can a day with a full can of water to support extra fluid plus dry food and water.

Partners aunt said she seems ok, and ate well when she got there. I had her give my cats a double portion, they both eat the Royal Canin. They still had lots of water. What are the chances this accelerated her kidney failure? And is there anything I should do as soon as I get back? It’s my understanding that if there was further damage done that would be irreversible and I’m devastated. I’ve had her since she was only 6 weeks old, she’s my baby 💔💔💔

Thank you all for all you do
