Am I the only one who doesn’t care about awards?

I’d like some opinions and input. I’ve never really cared about awards my entire career, when it comes to rack & stack boards they should maybe be 1% of your overall rating. I don’t know how we became this award-focused Air Force, but I’d gladly take the actual best people and wrench turners (surprise I’m Mx) that make shit happen any day over some NCO of the quarter winner. As far as I’m concerned, they are grossly overvalued participation trophies. Maybe it’s the award process or amount of them, but I usually just roll my eyes when others start asking me about awards. I can confidently say the BEST workers I’ve ever had didn’t care about them either.

Question for those with more exp, is there any existing official AFI or guidance that says we should be going for awards? EVERY SNCO I’ve ever asked this question to (it’s been dozens at this point)…..hasn’t been able to give me a proper answer that isn’t some BS.
