Keep going and don’t give up
I see a lot of posts on here about accelerating and a lot of people getting their degrees knocked out quickly. Kudos to all of you and that accomplishment. My story is a little different and I thought I would make a post and maybe offer some encouragement if you’re thinking about giving up.
My journey has been a long one at WGU. Started in 2018 expecting to be like a lot of others and knock this degree out quickly. I’m 37 and work full time and looked forward to checking that box for a degree in my field and potential opportunities it could open up for me with not having a bachelors yet. Then I proceeded to encounter a lot of life events, dad got cancer, went through a divorce, therapy with panic attacks and anxiety, switched majors, moved across the country, dad passed (f cancer), personal health issues hit, term breaks for not being able to physically function or get out of bed, 2 SAP appeals, and yet here I am. I just completed D325 Networks for my Net+ cert on the first try, got my first and only Excellence Award on D339 and finished my 2nd to last term just a little ahead of the end of the term. I’m about to start my last term and finally finish my degree. It’s been a long tough road. It wasn’t ideal and not nearly as quick as I had planned. But sometimes life hits you hard and you find the strength to get back up and accomplish your goals. Finishing this term has been one of the best feelings knowing I’m so close and about to accomplish what I set out to do finally, regardless of how long it’s taken me. If you’re struggling to keep going, don’t give up, WGU will work with you. Even if you have terms with 0 class completions like I did. It may take you longer than you wanted, but you can get there and cross that finish line! I’m pumped for my last term to finally get it done and get that degree.
TLDR: Life can hit you hard and change your plans, but keep at it and keep pushing and you can accomplish your goals.
