societies who believes in the idea of "real man/manhood" tends to be less happy?
heyy, this is my day 3 of reading research papers.
today i read that the contries who believe in this idea of manhood and real man tends to have lower happiness index, lower GDP, lower life expectancy, and higher corruption.
it happens because manhood in these cultures is very fragile, it needs to be constantly proven, and this title of being a real man can be easily lost if u fail at being masculine.
cultural norms associate masculanity with strength, independence and dominance,
and when men feel that they aren't meeting these expectations they experience anxiety, shame and social insecurity,
some studies even shows that, threats to masculanity can lead some men to react with aggresion and more competetiveness.
this is a part of this article -
"rigid gender norms harm national economies by steering men away from essential “feminine” fields, like caregiving and education, and restricting women’s workforce participation. Furthermore, the pressure to appear tough drives risky health behaviors (like smoking and heavy drinking) and discourages emotional vulnerability, ultimately lowering life expectancy and eroding community trust. The researchers also noted that precarious masculinity ideals are often exploited by authoritarian “strongman” political leaders, which can deepen societal polarization and fragmentation."
i m too tired to write more lol, that's why copy-pasting the above paragraph.
lemme know your thoughtss!!
