Huge thrift/fb marketplace week

Earlier this week, a local thrift store posted this Baby Marantz for $50 because it was grimy, the LEDs were out, the tuner wheel was stuck, and they weren’t certain it worked. I asked if they’d take $40 for it and they agreed. Brought it home and cleaned it up, removed a tuft of hair in the tuner pulley system that was blocking it, and tested the stages—all of them work great!

Earlier today, I came across a Pangea audio rack on FB marketplace for $15. I’ve been looking for one for a minute to make a small tabletop rack for my Rega components. While there, the seller offered a set of speaker stands for $5. I also noticed a turntable nearby with a sticker reading “may need repairs”—amazingly, the seller said I could take it for free. It’s a Music Hall 2.3 with a great Sumiko Ranier cart. I was able to replace the belt, level the tonearm & correct the tracking force, and fix a minor motor problem. Now it’s running beautifully. I’ll put some more photos of these finds in the comments.

I have a vintage Linn LP12 that’s my baby, but I’m thinking of having a more casual setup in the living room featuring the Music Hall and Marantz (and I can only call this a “casual” set up because it cost me $60 total!)
