Using welding scrap to make a new mounting bracket, for a post vise. Using an existing bracket as a template.

Took 2 pieces of welding scrap filled in their imperfections. Then oxy cut the circular triangle piece because the plasma cutter was down that day. Then the following week used the plasma cutter to cut the hole in the block. I should have done it when it was in 2 parts instead of one larger piece. Going to clean it up and reinforce it shape the block a bit in class next week. Then use my forge to make the collar wedges and spring.

Beginner welder Using shop scrap to make a post vise mounting bracket.

I picked up 2 post vises for my little blacksmith setup. One doesn’t have the mount collar spring or wedges. Using my free time in the school welding lab to make the missing parts. Utilizing the scrap as material. I made this from 2 pieces of scrap that I cut up and welded together. I should have plasma cut the hole in the block when I had it in 2 parts, it would look cleaner but now I know. The circular triangle part I oxy cut. Put it together with mostly MiG and some stick. I intend to clean it up more and reinforce it next week. As well as shape the block a bit taking off the hard edges.

Blacksmith adjacent Reno if not allowed.

I needed to make a post vise mounting bracket. I used one from another post vise as a template. I used 2 pieces of welding scrap from my welding class. Cut them up into about 8 parts. Then welded them together the part what bolts down was cut with Oxy acetylene the hole in the block was plasma cutter. Hindsight I should have plasma cut the block hole when I had it in 2 pieces and not after I welded it up fully into the block. It’s not done yet, I’m going to grind and sand it some more and clean up the impurities as well as reinforce some of it a bit. I’ll be forging the collar, spring, and wedges/keys maybe next week. I would have loved to put this in Rwelding but apparently I haven’t been active enough so I lost posting privileges. * in the title Remove if not allowed, it won’t let me edit the title line *
