First game of mordheim and group wasn't impressed. Bad teach?

I think i just need to hear from some of you guys to give this game another chance.

We tried out mordheim recently and it just felt like a little back and forth with nothing really happening. 3 of us playing taking turns, with one 'vet' introducing the game to us.

Me and my other friend (the other guy new to the game) felt that we were just going into the down state, standing up, going down through a lot of our turns. Other melee that was happening just felt we were constantly locked in combat with very little happening.

The vet introduced us to the game had his warband have high inititative so we both felt we pretty much were getting destroyed in melee when we were the one inititating it.

Overall it was a very flat experience. I understand its a dice game and maybe I need a larger sample size in the game experience but the game felt very flat.

I enjoy frostgrave and felt it was just a bettter version of mordheim, with dynamic spells altering the battlefield and a more streamlined combat/rules. but I want to hear your experience and opinion if we should consider giving it another chance.

I just feel like the skirmish/warhammer community/youtubers praise mordheim to high heaven and want to understand it.

I am open to playing again but wanted to hear some opinions

Where is everyone getting their captain america models for the game?

I want to use a proxy modem preferably in the wwii style like you guys.

I have crisis protocol but that is way out of scale.

Primarily from Warhammer games

Character equivalents such as.

Commander shadow sun, twin lance and farsight.

Valkia from old world,

The red terror from tyranids.

And the multitudes of others.

That's one thing I wish was incorporated right now.

One thing i feel that is lacking right now is a curated 'best ruleset' from the community.

Right now, at least with my relationship with the game, im just exploring the great toolbox of rules they offer, and experimenting with my friends.

But for those who are ahead in their OPR career. If you had to make a curated ruleset from the advanced rules - what sections would you pick?
