Career baristas, what would get you to make a move to a small town shop for a year?
New shop owner here. Not promoting anything.
Staffing is an issue, but even more, finding someone with more than a basic level of experience is almost impossible. (Very small town but sort of a destination spot)
It made me wonder whether there are people in the coffee world who would ever intentionally do something like: “I’m 24, tired of paying $2,400 for a studio in Portland/Brooklyn/Denver, and spending a year in a weird little town pulling shots and recalibrating actually sounds interesting.”
Genuinely curious whether this culture already exists in some form. Ski towns? Destination cafes?
