Highlands ranch for elementary age kids family?

My wife and I are considering relocating our family from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Highlands Ranch. We live in suburban Minneapolis and love it there outside of the weather, a.k.a. long winters, and not a lot of sun.

What is it like for families with elementary age kids to live in Highlands Ranch? What is the good the bad and ugly?

Our family (wife and I are mid 30’s and have two elementary age kids) is relocating to Denver area this summer. One of us works remote and the other will need to commute to cherry creek. Max commute we want from cherry creek is 45 mins in rush hour. Ideally, we are south or west of cherry creek as we don’t want to drive through downtown I-25 traffic daily.

We have kids elementary school age and schools are very important. We want somewhere that we feel safe letting our kids run around the neighborhood.

We are coming out soon to look at places. What spots should we check out??

Edit: budget up to $975k but ideally less.
