Portable speakers for MPC setup - iLoud Micro worth it?

I’m running an MPC Sample + MicroFreak setup and I’m a perpetual traveler, so portability matters a lot.

Looking for something:

  • small + lightweight (backpack friendly)
  • still fun for beat making (not too sterile)
  • good enough for decent mixes

Currently looking at the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro.

I already have DT 770 headphones for low end checks.

Anyone here using them with an MPC setup? Or is there something better in that size/weight category?

Got the new MPC Sample and noticed something weird.

When I trigger sounds quickly (especially bass or kicks back to back), I get crackling / slight distortion. Not sure if it’s clipping, overlapping samples, or something else.

It’s not extreme, but definitely noticeable and kinda annoying when finger drumming or doing faster patterns.

Is this normal behavior? Any settings I should check (levels, polyphony, envelopes, etc.)?

Would be great to hear if others are experiencing the same.

>EDIT: I can hear it on the internal speaker and on my headphones.

>EDIT2: It's the compressor.

MPC + MicroFreak vs S-1 - did I make the wrong choice?

I got myself an MPC and needed a synth to go with it. After some research, I ended up choosing between the Arturia MicroFreak and the Roland AIRA Compact S-1.

I went to a shop, tried both, and chose the MicroFreak.

Now I have serious FOMO + GAS and I’m wondering if I should have gone with the S-1 instead.

My goal: nitty gritty, analog, lo-fi, vintage hip-hop vibes.

Now I’m thinking:

  • get the S-1 as well for bass / low end
  • use the MicroFreak for pads, leads, and weird sounds

Do they actually complement each other, or is that unnecessary overlap? Or is the reality more like: I should have just gone with the S-1 only?

Another option: keep the MicroFreak and run it through a multi-FX (reverb, saturation, etc.), would that basically make the S-1 unnecessary?

Important: I’m a complete beginner and honestly don’t really know what I’m doing. ^(^^)

Just trying to understand what makes the most sense long term.
