Something to occupy your time or perhaps training in order to gain new skills or qualifucations so that you can be promoted or land a better position with more power and people below you. Basically, you want to show them that you are only really interested in becoming better and the pay is secondary because you know it's all temporary anyway.

They pulled me into a surprise meeting. They want to change my permanent contract to an on-demand hourly contract.

I work in England and have been with my current company for over 4 years on a permanent, full-time contract.

This afternoon, my manager and someone from HR called me in and told me that because a few big projects have ended, they can no longer guarantee me the 37.5 hours in my contract going forward.

So their 'solution' was a 'suggestion' that I sign a new hourly contract, and only come to work when they need me.

They've given me until Friday to 'think about my options,' but honestly, I feel like they're backing me into a corner.

So I'm honestly lost. What happens if I say no? Seriously, what are my rights here? Any advice from you would be a huge help.
