EDIT: I know the risks of DIY, and I am willing to take those on. I am a grown adult who understands technology and how to use professional photography equipment. If you aren't going to answer my questions, then there is no need to respond. Thanks!

Hi! My wedding is approaching, and I want to DIY our photobooth. Here is the general vibe of what we're going for. I want it to feel very editorial.

I feel like I have almost everything you need to do this:

  • Backdrop holder + draping cloth
  • iPad
  • iPad stand w/ ring light
  • DSLR camera
  • Photobooth software (I'd like to use Halo by Simple Booth, but open to recommendations -- don't care about cost)

I plan to get chargers & adapters for everything. I won't be investing in a wooden stand or a printer -- this is a one-time use kind of thing and would love to just rely on what I already have on hand!

My questions:

  • What would be the best way to connect my camera to my iPad? I have a 2025 iPad and an Olympus OM-D EM10II, for reference. There are lots of guides in this sub, but want to make sure I have updated advice/best practices for 2026!
  • If I have a strong ring light (have tested it in dark & during daytime; it looks great), do I need a studio light? I can procure one, but trying to avoid unnecessary purchases if possible!
  • What are the recommended camera settings? I am an experienced photographer, so in my dreams I would set up everything perfectly, but perhaps auto is best for something like this?
  • Am I missing anything? 🤪

Thanks so much in advance!
