SMAB for my husband, who hasn't read a book in years, to read on a plane

We're doing a big international trip with our two small kids, and we're going to TRY to set an example for our kids by not just being glued to our phones for hours at a time while we're on planes and trains.

He loved the TV series Station Eleven, Silo, and The Expanse. I've thought about just choosing the book of one of these.

As an edgy teen boy, he read a lot of Kurt Vonnegut.

He read Piranesi on a plane a few years ago and liked it.

He's snobby and hard to impress, but I need something very easy to read, as it will be hard to focus under the circumstances.

I’m finishing my first year of a two-year ADN program at a community college, and I’m starting to feel down about my job prospects. I’m in my mid-thirties and this is a career change (although I didn’t have much of a “career” before this, just a steady and somewhat coherent string of jobs). I resigned from my last job a year ago to be a SAHM of my 1 year old and 3 year old and pursue nursing as my way back into the workforce.

Most of my classmates already work in healthcare in some way. There are lots of schools in my area (Baltimore/DC) graduating BSN students, and having two little kids means I can’t afford the childcare I’d need to work a CNA or PCT job. I figured I’d find a super flexible student nurse job in my second year, but I’ve sent out four applications and gotten crickets. A lot of the more structured externship programs require a full time commitment in the summer, which again, I don’t have the childcare to do (and it’s way too late anyway - I wasn’t looking for jobs at all when I’d have needed to apply). I’m crushing my classes, but I’m working so hard and my family is giving up so much, and I’m worried it’s going to flop.

Open to any advice, commiseration, or encouragement.
