Hey friends, I have a problem that has plagued me for nearly 20 years now. Every few years I think about it again and attempt another search, but so far it's all been in vain.

I'm trying desperately to recall an album from my college emo/punk/hardcore years, and I vividly recall many details about the album, but not the title, the artists, or anything that either Google searching or AI-enabled digging has been able to latch onto.

  • It was a concept album, about an evil elf (possibly called The Dark Elf?) who burns down a forest village and kidnaps the daughter of a woodcutter (possibly called The Woodsman?), who chases and fights the elf, and ultimately dies saving his daughter. It was clearly meant to be a sort of allegory of God's love and sacrifice.
  • It was predominantly acoustic guitar-based. There may have been some strings, piano, or drums on some tracks, but no electric guitar to my recollection.
  • There were both male and female vocals on different tracks, representing the voices of the different characters. There may have been two male singers and one female singer, or possibly just one man and one woman.
  • I recall this being a one-off concept album, with several contributing artists but not released under the name of an existing band.
  • The musicians involved in the project belonged to one or more existing, mid-tier Christian punk and emo bands, but again, I can't recall which bands they were in.
  • I want to say that it was released between 2002-2008, because I remember buying the CD more or less when it was released, and listening to it while in college.
  • It was all very earnest and serious, not quite screamo singing but close.
  • Repeated search attempts using these terms and words keep pointing me to the animated series Over the Garden Wall (2014) due to a storyline involving a woodsman and an evil entity stealing his daughter's soul. But this album was definitely not related to this series, and predated it by at least five years, likely more.

I'm hoping that these details might trigger a memory in someone's head? I lost this album decades ago, but still think about it sometimes!
