Focus: An open-source task app for people who hate cloud-based tools
Hey everyone,
Over the years I’ve tried a lot of productivity and Eisenhower Matrix apps, but most of them never really clicked with me.
Some were overloaded with features, some pushed subscriptions and accounts, and many felt more focused on engagement than actually helping you focus. I kept wanting something simpler. Something private, fast, intentional, and distraction free.
So I started building Focus.
Focus is an open-source offline task manager built around the Eisenhower Matrix. The idea was to create a productivity app that respects the user and stays out of the way.
No accounts.
No cloud dependency.
No ads.
No analytics.
No endless onboarding.
Just a clean space to think clearly and organize work.
The app is built with Flutter and uses Hive for fully local storage. Everything stays on your device. It supports Android, Windows, and Linux, with Material You inspired design, light/dark themes, keyboard shortcuts on desktop, focus mode, drag-and-drop task management, and more.
One thing I cared a lot about while building this was reducing friction. Adding tasks, moving between quadrants, switching views, or completing tasks should feel instant and effortless.
The whole philosophy behind Focus is that productivity should feel calm, not overwhelming.
The project has now crossed 200+ GitHub stars and 4k+ downloads, which honestly means a lot for something that started as a personal attempt to build a better productivity tool.
