Question about letter received

I’m asking on behalf of my neighbor, who isn’t at all tech savvy and wouldn’t know how to get this info even if he could see a screen. I couldn’t find any solid answers using Google so I thought I’d try here.

He got a letter a few days ago stating his claim was approved, but they scheduled a phone call for next week. Does having his claim approved mean he’s on his way to receiving SSDI soon? I had to read the letter to him, as he in almost completely blind now (thus the SSDI application) but it didn’t say anything about an amount or when it would start, so that left us wondering if he’s fully approved and can expect to start receiving some money soon. I told him I’d do some research and try to figure out if the letter means good news.

The poor guy is so anxious to start paying his landlord back for the reduced rent he’s been paying over the last 3 months. Luckily the landlord understands and is letting him pay later. I’m really hoping “claim approved” means good things for him. He’s such a sweet guy and I don’t want to see him have to move away to stay with family and lose the independence he has.

Any one who can give us some insight would be a rockstar to him! Thanks in advance!

My coworker calls me the wrong name on purpose

My first name is Ingram. Most people call me Gram though, because Ingram is weird and sounds a little pretentious in my opinion. With that being said, I have a coworker who is originally from England but spent half her life in Australia. So obviously some words are pronounced differently, and that’s not a problem most of the time. But it’s becoming a problem in this one specific way.

She refuses to pronounce my name correctly. She says “Grey Ham” every single time. Not “Grey-Am” in a fluid way, which would make sense even if it’s not my name. But she pronounces it very intentionally as two words, then smirks after she says it. I’ve tried correcting her and explaining my name isn’t Graham, it’s Ingram and people call me Gram for short. But all she says is “sure, Grey Ham.”

I went to her supervisor, as well as HR, and I’ve been told it’s “just her accent” and to give her some grace. So then I started to ignore her when she calls me Grey Ham, which my supervisor said isn’t acceptable because I know she means me.

I’m at my wits end because I know she’s doing it to annoy me…and it’s working.

My friends say I’m overreacting and I should just let it go. But they all have regular names and don’t get called something different on purpose.
