As someone who’s not Persian, Arab, or even Middle Eastern, I’ve never understood why Persians get so offended by someone thinking they’re Arab. Because I live in a city with a huge population of both Arabs and Persians. And honestly Arabs tend to be more white passing than Persians. Many of them, especially Levantines and North Africans, can pass as Southern European. But Persians I noticed tend to look more “ethnic” I guess? Like they look distinctly middle eastern and can rarely pass as European like many Arabs can. So why do Persians find it to be offensive to look Arab?
So im a Somali girl and I’ve recently discovered people from Kerala. In my city there’s a lot of Indians and for some reason I can tell when a guy or girl is from Kerala specifically. And I noticed guys from South India, specifically Keralite guys have such a distinct look compared to other Indians. They have such nice cute curls, tall, brown skin, small noses and handsome faces. they remind me of Somali guys but I think they look better tbh lol.
So I know what the Québécois people eat. Tourtierre, poutine, Pate chinois, sugar pie, etc. I’m very familiar with their culture and admire their cuisine.
But what the heck do other white Canadians eat? I know yall love to eat food frim other cultures like Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Korean, Chinese, Lebanese, Persian, Afghan, Ethiopian, Jamaican, etc etc.
But do you guys actually have your own cuisines? What is non-québécois white Canadian food? I’ve always wondered this…
I wanna make brownies this weekend, so which brownie mix do you recommend?
Saffron Kabob restaurant is the best Persian/Iranian restaurant in Ottawa! Amazing quality and huge portions. I got the Vaziri plate and a side of Fesenjoon (an addictive sweet & sour chicken with walnuts and pomegranate stew)
Are Greeks closer to Serbians, Bulgarians, Slovenia, etc than Italians, Spanish, & Portuguese?
I’m currently in Athens, Greece for the first time. And I’m quite taken back at how the Greeks look and carry themselves. I thought they’d have a Mediterranean look to them. Similar to how the Italian, Portuguese or Lebanese look. But they look so Balkan, Slavic, and many look Turkish.
. Even the way they dress and style themself…they look so Balkan/Slavic. They have none of the Mediterranean elegance and refinement I witnessed in Italy, Portugal and Lebanon.
