Why Don't They "Go Hard" In Any of Their New Albums?
First off, They are my favorite band, by far! I cannot glaze them harder if I wanted to. But Every Album after 'Together' is getting less and less energetic, specifically with the vocals. There's always at least SOME high energy bangers in all their albums, but this newest one has none. Every song is vocally softer than "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk" or "Whiteout Conditions"
Now, every album has a couple of softer song, gotta mix it up! And I don't expect them to make every song as hyped up as "Broken Beads" or "The Electric Version." But their albums are usually 10/10s for me. They're still good! They're unique and complex. But part of what made The New Pornographers perfect to me were the high energy vocal harmonies, and switching frantically in-and-out of falsetto.
I know they're getting older, but I just saw them live, and they've still got it! One of the best shows I've ever seen live!
Am I alone in this? Do other people think their albums are getting a little more 1-note? This happened to the band Destroyer as well, with the exception of his newest album
