Man found dead in a car park on April 26 "after getting into a pub brawl" was Afghan soldier who had arrived in the UK seven months ago

First Lieutenant Abdul Wali Mamozai, 33, was found dead in a car park on April 26.

Four men, aged 35, 33, 33, and 27, were later arrested on suspicion of murder and assault by beating after the discovery near the Market Inn pub in Bracknell, Berks.

Married Abdul, whose wife is expecting their baby, was given refuge in the UK after he fled Afghanistan when allied troops pulled out of the capital Kabul in 2021.

He was trained by the British Army to be a commando and completed a leadership course with US special forces in 2020.

Abdul arrived in the UK around seven months ago through the Government’s Afghan Relocations and Assistance Programme.

He spent three months at a hotel in Crawley, West Sussex, before moving to The Grange Hotel in Bracknell — where he had been working at a local car wash.

Abdul recently married Habiba Haidari, 34, who he met in the hotel.

Pregnant Habiba said they were “very happy” and had spent the day together on the date he died before his pal asked him to go out.

“I became worried and started calling him. “His phone was ringing, and my messages were delivered, but he did not respond.“ I called him more than 100 times with no answer. Then I went to the security guards to report him missing.” Habiba said Abdul had great pride in his time working with the British Army.

“He was very proud of being part of the Afghan Army’s commando unit and often spoke about his experiences.”

The grieving wife said she now wants to leave Bracknell after Abdul’s death.

She said: “We had a very short time together. I made so many memories with him in this short time.

“Wherever I go in the hotel, I imagine him there. I remember our moments in every corner. I cannot live in this hotel because these memories will destroy me.

“I have asked the local authorities to move me, because I cannot continue living here in Bracknell and The Grange Hotel surrounded by these memories.”

Sources said several men had argued and fought with Abdul at the Market Inn late on April 25.

The arrested four have been freed on bail pending further enquiries.
