Sticker Printer?

Hi All.

I'm a fan of the Ukiyo-e / Hanga art style and built an app that allows you to take your own photos, turn them into layers, and then create your own 'Stamp' / 'Print' from the photo (examples above).

I chose the 1:1 square format because it works really nicely for a sort of 'Stamp Book' aesthetic to show off your collection of Stamps but another nice benefit is that it means I can turn these Stamps into Stickers and share them with friends physically as well as digitally.

So far I've been using Canva to aligned 3x4 squares on a page, printing them on Sticker paper in my inkjet and then cutting the stickers out manually with a paper cutter. It's a bit of a laborious process.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a decent 'sticker' printer? Considering I'm very much just a hobbiest and don't want to spend 'Pro' money on this.

Thanks!

▲ 24 r/ukiyoe

I made a Hanko/Eki/Ukiyoe app and am genuinely unsure about what to call it.

I've always loved the aesthetic of Ukiyo-e. I've wanted to make my own print for ages but don't trust my carving skills. The process of decomposing an image into composite layers and then creating the print step by step is fascinating to me, though.

I also think the Eki Stamp / Book phenom in Japan is deserving of worldwide imitation. I wish we had more of that here in Canada (where I'm from).

So I built this app (https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/hanko/id6765799657) that lets you take a photo of your choosing, break it down into the component (stylized) layers and then lets you create the stamp of your choice from the layers (colours, ordering, etc).

But my question to all of you is - what to call this? it's not strictly 'Hanko', I know (which is more a "signature" stamp) but nor is it really Ukiyo-e. Is there another name for this 'Custom Made Stamp' you could suggest?

Really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance.

Putting my money where my mouth is - building a Trending Niche app with a twist

I’ve been working on a SaaS to help with competitive research and using it I noticed a trend towards Stamping apps (Stampory, OneStamp, Stampy,Stampify, etc).

Most of them follow the idea of cutting out a segment of a photo from your camera roll, turning it into a stamp and adding it to your collection.

I wanted to try and ride the trend but also see if I could find a unique angle - Hanko let’s you take a photo and turn into a stamp with print layers, like wood block printing (like Okiyoe for those of you familiar with the process). You can then save the stamps creatively in your Eki book (like the souvenir travel passports that are so popular in Japan) and share the stamps with friends so they can collect them in their books too.

I’m obsessively playing with this one which is a first for the apps I’ve built. This one is the first that I really find Fun.
