My husband hates my rug

And I guess other people might too. I love it because of the colors, but it is a little visually busy. We are getting a new couch (sectional), and it’s an off-white color. Not my first choice of color, but it’s brand new, beautiful, and completely free.

Is the rug really that bad? Should I find something else?

How to arrange my family room

This is my family room. We have five seats and six people who need to sit here on a daily basis. That means that we need another place to sit, now that my twins are getting big enough to not be able to share a seat anymore. I need to find a way to add a seat without impeding traffic flow, and while meeting the needs of all family members.

Twin A is medically complex and is mostly g tube fed. I use the end table between the 3 seat couch and the 2 seat couch to hold a lot of his supplies, and the charger and the pole for his pump is between the two couches. That allows him to sit and watch tv while he gets his feeding, and also keeps the pump from being a hazard since it’s tucked out of the way. Because of those factors, I don’t want a sectional that would not allow a space between the two couches.

The room is long and narrow. We have it broken up into a seating area and a playroom on one side. It is open to the kitchen on the other side. We also have a small table and chairs on the kitchen side of the room. That allows the kids to eat at a table while they watch tv, instead of on the couch. It minimizes spills on the rug and upholstery. We would prefer to keep that setup, at least for now.

Possible solution #1: find a new couch that seats four across for against that back wall where the 3 seater is right now. Keep the other side a two seater, and voila! We have 6 seats. My worry: four seaters are harder to find, and it might look awkward.

Possible solution #2: keep the current 3 seater and 2 seater setup, and add a chair for another seat. This would require pushing the couches into the playroom area or we would have to give up the table and chairs.

Possible solution #3: get a sectional that goes around the corner on the kitchen side? And keep a two seater on the other side? I worry that it would further close off the room and create a traffic flow problem.

Please help me choose between these possibilities so that we can get another seating place in the space, maintain traffic flow patterns and meet the needs of my tubie kid.
