TN Engineer – Degree alignment
Hi folks,
I’m trying to understand how strict CBP/USCIS officers are regarding degree title vs actual coursework alignment for the TN Engineer category.
My academic background:
• 3-year undergrad (telecommunications, networking, distributed systems, electronics fundamentals)
• Graduate Certificate (post-baccalaureate) in Software Engineering
• Canadian MSc in Information Technology (thesis-based, from a CS & Engineering department, supervised by a licensed engineer)
I obtained a credential evaluation stating equivalency to a U.S. Bachelor’s in Computer Systems Engineering, based on the combined undergraduate + graduate certificate coursework (MSc evaluated separately as U.S. Master’s equivalent).
My job duties are clearly engineering-oriented (distributed systems, infrastructure, architecture).
Questions:
In practice, how much weight do officers place on the exact degree title vs the actual engineering coursework?
Have you seen TN Engineer approvals where the bachelor-equivalent was obtained via combined academic credentials in related engineering fields?
Do officers tend to view telecommunications / networking degrees as sufficiently aligned with Computer Engineering?
Thanks
