El Hogar Filipino Building

El Hogar Filipino Building

Are there plans to refurbish and repurpose this building? It's such a waste to have such a fairly iconic building of Binondo to just wither away like this, and would be a nice addition to how the area has changed in recent years.

Opinion: If Meralco will demand a standard for grid-tie solar, they should pay excess energy produced by homes, not just credits.

I can somewhat understand Meralco's POV on asking for standards to be set before people can do a grid-tie setup of their solar home setup, since there would really be some safety and grid management concerns that would need to be considered with more and more people installing solar.

But we should also start demanding that Meralco pay users not just in credits for excess energy produced, but to pay the home owners (up to a certain limit) for unused credits. Mainly because of two important points:

  1. Asking home owners to use more established installers and brands means more expensive solar installations. This will provide some relief for homeowners to follow the guidelines and permit process since there's a possibility to recoup the costs through monetary earnings.
  2. If we're really serious in moving towards a bigger share of renewables in our energy mix, then this will incentivise more people to install solar. And the payment should be fair - meaning the rates should be at the same (or similar) generation rates that Meralco is paying producers.
