I did the maths on how many people are affected by the NG changes

Did the maths on how many people will be affected by the changes to the NG policy

  • 1 property -> 1623000 or 6.05%
  • 2 rental properties -> 423401 or 1.58%
  • 3 rental properties -> 129695 or 0.48%
  • 4 or more rental properties -> 84984 or 0.32%

Cumulatively this will affect only 8.43% of the population

Australia’s population was 26,821,557 people at 30 September 2023

Note that this doesn't account for grandfathered properties and also that this includes the whole population. The reasonsing for that:

  1. Investors are those who have made the decision to invest, and thus they will be affected by this for any future changes
  2. The ATO does not make the distinction between adults and minors in their data. It would not be far fetched to assume properties under minors' names for tax planning purposes if you already have several pproperties

I did the math on how many property investors will be affected

Seems the data for some of the numbers are readily available, and I think we can use them to calculate how many people will really be affected by the change in NG for properties:

  • 1 property -> 1623000 or 6.05%
  • 2 rental properties -> 423401 or 1.58%
  • 3 rental properties -> 129695 or 0.48%
  • 4 or more rental properties -> 84984 or 0.32%

So really, cumulatively this will affect only 8.43% of the population.

Australia’s population was 26,821,557 people at 30 September 2023

edit: Just want to add a note on my assumptions:

  1. Investors are those who have made the decision to invest, and thus they will be affected by these changes for any future investment decisions. Its something we have to factor in when we make the next decision to buy, sell
  2. The ATO does not make the distinction between adults and minors in their data. It is not uncommon to have properties under your kids names one way or another for tax planning purposes if you already have several properties

Cosmiception - Pop OS Cosmic on Fedora Cosmic Spin with full GPU Passthrough

Managed to get Pop OS cosmic running on Fedora 44 Cosmic spin with full AMD GPU passthrough and sunshine + moonlight 4K streaming.

The process is certainly a lot easier compared to my passthrough efforts back in 2020. You can even compile and enable Vulkan gpu offload on host if you don't need to pass through the GPU for gaming.

By comparison, it is currently not possible to run Ubuntu 26.04 in the VM with gnome + passthrough AMD GPU as there is a memory leak somewhere that eats up RAM in the VM after a few minutes.

Consider Fedora Cosmic spin if you'd like to try Cosmic DE

Gave Fedora Cosmic spin a try for a few days this week and boy is it way more stable than PopOS. Even managed to get vulkan qemu passthrough set up so that VMs can utilise the host's GPU.

Would recommend if you want to give Cosmic DE a try. Its still not perfect but until i messed up drivers trying to get looking glass working, it was pretty decent
