Hi! Our team's been working on something called Sumugi by Storyboarder that's a bit like Comipo, where you use 3D characters and environments to create manga, comics, and visual stories.

Right now, most of our users are people who have their OC avatars in 3D for VTubing, VRChat purposes, but we also had a lot of feedback from mangaka and publishing editors about it being useful for storyboarding in general. For example, you can quickly test out camera angles, try different types of shots, and move speech balloons around to experiment with lettering and panel flow before committing to final art. Here are some features we have right now:

Camera — You have a free-moving camera you can position however you want: move it up, down, orbit around your characters or objects. So if you want a low-angle dramatic shot, a bird's eye view, or just need to find the right framing for a panel, you can just move the camera there instead of having to figure out how to draw the perspective.

3D environments — 60+ pre-built scenes (classrooms, cafes, arcades, interiors, etc.) with lighting controls. You can also build your own scenes, upload assets, or request them from us.

2D layout mode — Switch into 2D to arrange panels, place and move speech balloons, add SFX and filters.

Characters — Our character system uses the same format as VTubing and VRChat avatars, which means there's already a big creator community and easy-to-use design tools around them — so you don't need any 3D modeling experience to get a custom character. We also have characters ready to use on Sumugi, with 100+ preset poses, hand posing, and facial expression controls you can save and reuse.

Community — There's a social feed where you can share your stories, comment, and follow others.

We're actively building and looking for beta testers to help shape where this goes. If you're interested, please let me know so I can send you an invite code. Our website is also storyboarder.com (no download needed)

I’ve been building a tool (Sumugi by Storyboarder) to make content like manga, comics, and visual stories using VRoids. For example, you can make your lore comic or meme content with it. It’s been about a year in now, and wanted to share where things are at to see if anyone's interested in trying it out. Here are some features:

Scenes — 60+ pre-built environments (Japanese classroom, game arcade, house interior, park, podcast studio, medieval village, and more). You can also build your own from thousands of free assets, upload your own, or request it from us. There are lighting controls too if you want to set a specific mood or time of day.

Full VRoid support — Drop in your VRM 0.0 or 1.0 exports straight from VRoid Studio. Most custom VRMs work too. If yours is being tricky, we can fast-track compatibility; we've done this for a bunch of users already.

Posing system with IK/FK — 100+ preset poses (and growing), hand posing, and full access to facial morph targets so you can build and save custom expressions. We recently added skirt bone access and are actively working on recognizing tail bones and other physics bones.

2D Layout Mode — After setting up your scene, you can switch to 2D mode to add speech balloons, filters, sound effects, resize panels, and more.

Community asset library — Share your original characters and assets with the community. If someone uses them in published content, you get auto-credited. It's been really cool seeing people build shared lore, story universes, and roleplay.

Social feed — Share your content on our native platform, comment, and follow each other. We're building out more social features.

Coming next:

  • Community templates for story and meme remixing
  • OC profile pages to show off your characters
  • Expanded visual effects and filters — halftone, cyberpunk, romantic/soft, and more

A lot of our updates over the past year have come straight from beta users and community feedback. If you want to try it out while it’s still in closed beta and help us shape this, let me know and I’ll send an invite code or join at storyboarder.com

Our team is been building a tool (Sumugi by Storyboarder) to make content like manga, comics, and visual stories using VRoids. For example, you can make your lore comic with it or memes for your OCs. We're about a year in now, and we wanted to share where things are at to see if anyone's interested in trying it out and help us shape it further. Here's what we've got so far 👇

Scenes — 60+ pre-built environments (house interiors, Japanese classroom, game arcade, cafes, etc.) You can also build your own from our free asset library, upload your own, or request it from us, too! There are lighting controls if you want to set a specific mood or time of day.

Full VRoid support — You can upload VRM 0.0 or 1.0 made with VRoid Studio. Most custom VRMs made with Blender or Unity work too. If yours is being tricky, we'll fast-track compatibility; we've done this for a bunch of users already.

Posing system with IK/FK — 100+ preset poses (and growing), hand posing, and full access to facial morph targets so you can build and save custom expressions. We recently added skirt bone access and are actively working on recognizing tail bones and other physics bones.

2D Layout Mode — After setting up your scene, you can switch into 2D mode to add speech balloons, resize/reorder panels, filters, sound effects, and more.

  • Community templates for story and meme remixing. Make a template and share with others.
  • OC profile pages to show off your characters and stories
  • Expanded visual effects and filters — halftone, cyberpunk, romantic/soft, and more

A lot of our updates over the past year have come straight from our early user community feedback. If you want to try it out and help us shape this, let me know and I’ll send an invite code or join at storyboarder.com
